Eight to Ten Months
Your wedding gown may be the expensive and exquisite garment you will ever own. With contemporary gown designers providing almost limitless options in silhouettes, color, fabrics, and price ranges, the search for " the perfect dress" can seem very daunting. Yet , by approaching gown shopping logically, the experience can be memorable for all the right reasons.
Where to find a Gown
Choosing a Gown
- Do your research, Rule out what you don't want if you can't decide what you do want .
( Remember that how the wedding gowns look on the models is not the way they will look on you)
- You must try on every silhouettes to make sure that you accentuate the positivers parts of your body well, and minimize those areas that are not your favorite.( this is when a bridal consultant is most helpful ) working with a bridal salon that alter's gown is the best way to ensure the best fit for your body.
- Set a budget for the entire bridal ensemble. This includes alterations, undergarments, a veil and/or headpiece, shoes, jewelry, and possibly a crinoline/slip. ( Budget's are so IMPORTANT to stand by.) When you arrive at the bridal salon be honest about your budget and do not expect a BMW for the price of a Ford Foucs. Bridal Salon's are not a car dealership..They do not have the room to discount the BMW to the price of the Ford Focus. This can destroy a great appiontment very fast..
- Think about color: So you want a white dress? Is Ivory or another color and option? what about an accent color or a touch of color? All the above can be talked about with your bridal consultant. Ivory is gaining to be the most popular color worn. White can be a very hard color for most skin types.
- What style of wedding are you planning: formal,semi-formal,or casual? What will the season be? The time of day? Will there be a theme?.. The Style of wedding you chose will help you deciede on a dress ,and this will also help you find the proper budget as well.
- Where are you intending to hold the ceremony/reception? Will you marry in the house of worship? Will the location be outdoors or indoors? Many brides feel the need to remove or add detail depending on the location of the wedding ceromony.
-Are there cultural or religious considerations to take into account?
-What do you feel comfortable wearing? Think about your regular waredrobe; decide what flatters you.
When it is time to head to the salon/store/seamstress try the following:
- Make an appointment and be on time.
- Take only on or two people with you.
- State your budget.
- Take any accessories you definitely plan to wear to make sure they work with your gown.
- Wear aooropriate lingerie and shoes(heel height)
- Take photos of dresses that you like and show them to the bridal consultant. Keep an open mind when trying on the gowns. Sales concultants know their inventory and may be privy to gowns that would be great for you,but are not widley advertised.
- When it is time to purchase a gown, be sure to thoroughly read and understand your contract/reciept.
- If you intend to look at veils and headpieces, take photos of the hairstyle you plan ( up/doen/curly/straight) or wear your hair in that style.
